Workforce Investment Act

Programs for employers

  • WIA (Workforce Strategies Tool Kit - link)
  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides federal funding for workforce development nationwide for adults, dislocated workers and youth. Services are available to individuals and to employers.

Funding supports training services by:

  • Paying up to 50 percent of the costs to train workers whose employers agree to continue their employment once training is complete
  • Providing Individual Training Accounts (ITA) are publicly funded training vouchers that adults can use to purchase training from a list of eligible training providers
  • On the Job Training – participants are paid while learning the skills they need to do the job. WIA funds are used to reimburse employers up to 50 percent of the participant's wage rate

Eligibility for WIA:

  • Eligibility is determined by a "self-sufficiency" standard. If a worker earns below the local economy's "self-sufficiency" wage level, they are available for Intensive and Training Services.

For more information on eligibility for training or other services, call 1.877.US2.JOBS (877.889.5627) or visit America's Service Locator at http://www.careeronestop.org/
