Trends: Biotechnology

What's happening now...

Biotechnology is a large, global industry, that is growing daily with no signs of stopping anytime soon. Global revenues have risen from $23 billion in 2000 to over $50 billion in 2005. The US has not gone without its share of that growth. Since 1992, this industry in the States has more than tripled in size.

Snohomish County has its share of the biotechnology industry as well. Here, the industry mainly entails the production of therapeutic or diagnostic devices. And these companies show no sign of stopping. This means that there will be a constant demand for a skilled workforce with jobs ranging from engineering and biology to the design development of artificial organs and health management.

Where the industry is going...

The biotechnology industry is growing steadily. But more important to Snohomish County, the biomedical device industry is soaring. Demand will continue to raise over the next five years for the products they research and manufacture.

This means that the industry's employers will continue to seek out new talent and do whatever it takes to keep them on board.
