Trends: Nanotechnology

What's happening now...

Nanotechnology may never become a huge industry on its own, but its certainly making us rethink the way we operate in other industries. Nanotechnology is defined as controlling the matter of an object on a scale smaller than one micrometer, and the fabrication of devices at this level. This new technology is infiltrating the communications, health care and energy industries in a big way.

Because of this new ability to change a device's makeup at the molecular level, the mobile communication devices are really benefiting. The micro displays on these devices have a much lower power consumption rate, screen definition is clearer and there is a low-cost solution for an excellent battery.

Nanotechnology is also ever present in the healthcare industry. New prosthetics, diagnostics tools as well as new drugs have been created because of nanotechnology.

Even though it is still in the process of being developed, nanotechnology holds great promise for the energy industry. With the raising concerns and need for better fossil fuel efficiency, nanotechnology may provide some alternatives. Lower cost alternatives to fossil fuel energy are also a possibility because of nanotechnology.

Where the industry is going...

The possibilities are endless with nanotechnology. Experts have just barely scratched the surface with the medical device, mobile communications and the energy industries. Only the future will show where this exciting industry will take us.
